Warren Hall

August 10, 1926 - April 18, 2011

Claremont, NH   Warren A. Hall of West Lebanon passed away April 18, 2011 at 84. He was born August 10, 1926 to Elmer Hall and Marion Cutts Hall, and descended from the Halls who originally settled Lebanon in the 1760’s.   In 1944 Warren graduated from West Lebanon High School. He entered the Army in 1945, and served as a Military Policeman in Occupied Germany. He worked with his father on the farm and at the railroad freight office in White River Junction. Warren graduated with a B.S from the UNH College of Agriculture in 1952. He joined the agriculture fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho. For the past 57 years he and his AGR friends have held twice yearly get-togethers.   Warren was as a 4-H agent in the 1950’s and worked in the building trades in the 1960’s and 70’s he. He did landscaping for AGR brother Ken Gagne of Boxford MA, becoming close with Ken’s family. In 1970 he converted a barn into a home for AGR brother Bill Sweet on Jericho Street in Norwich. In the 1980’s he went to work for Split Ball Bearing of Lebanon as an industrial courier. He maintained the family place, now farmed by McNamara Dairy.   Despite his fondness for flirting, Warren was too independent for marriage. Instead, he was Uncle to generations of children, in the family, the neighborhood, and his friends’ families. In retirement, he helped host camp-ins so we all could be together.   Warren’s favorite sport was football, from playing in high school to in his last years watching every game the TV showed. For fun, he played cribbage, and made clever knives and boxes. His very favorite activity was fly-fishing. His prime spots were True’s Brook, Mascoma Lake, and Post Pond. Favorite fishing buddies included his late cousin Carroll Story of West Lebanon, brother-in-law Robert McLaughlin of Gardner MA, and best friend John Brewer of Kingston RI.    Warren lost his sister Helen Hall McLaughlin in 1972. He is survived by sister Margery Hall Reed of North Charlestown NH, nephew Dave McLaughlin and Justine Seymour of West Lebanon, nephew John Reed and Michelle Reed of Center Barnstead NH, niece Jodi McLaughlin Murray and Eddie Murray of Medfield MA, and niece Sue Reed of Hanover NH. Also great-nieces and nephews Robyn McLaughlin of Phoenix AZ, Ashley and Nick Murray of Medfield, Lily and Gilman Seymour of West Lebanon, and Patrick McLaughlin of Scottsdale AZ. Other surviving family includes cousins Louise Story Nylund of Enfield NH, Gordon Wadleigh of Unity NH, Steven Wadleigh of Oregon, Richard LaPlant of Eastham MA, Robert LaPlant of Nashua NH, their children and grand-children.    There will be no visiting hours. Family and friends are invited to a Service at the West Lebanon Congregational Church at 1 PM on Saturday April 23rd. with the Rev. Richard Wierwille, pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in West Lebanon Cemetery, with a gathering at the church to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions for scholarships may be made to the West Lebanon Alumni Association, P.O. Box 5089, West Lebanon NH 03784. Warren thought we all should be out fishing with him, so in his honor, go out on June 4th, Fish Free Day in NH, and cast a line for Warren Hall.   Arrangements have been entrusted to the Roy Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH.
